Questions

Answers to common questions

What early signs mean my driveway or patio needs replacing?

Look for cracks wider than a pencil, slabs that sit at different heights, and flaking or crumbling on the surface. Pooling water after a storm is another clue. Mark it, date it, and take photos. Small hairline cracks are often cosmetic. Wide, growing or uneven ones are worth showing to a local provider before they spread.

Can I fix small concrete cracks myself?

Often, yes. Sweep out the crack, blow away dust, and fill it with a concrete crack sealant from a hardware store. Follow the label on cure time. Stop there if the slab has sunk, tilted or has cracks that keep growing. Those point to a base problem, and a provider should look at it.

Is it safe to pour concrete myself?

A small walkway pad is a fair weekend project. A full driveway or patio is harder. Wet concrete is heavy, it sets on its own clock, and mistakes are hard to undo. Wear gloves, eye protection and boots, since wet mix can burn skin. For big slabs, humid weather and tight timing, hire a provider.

Will my homeowners insurance pay for a new driveway or patio?

Usually not for wear and age. Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as a fallen tree or storm impact, but coverage varies. Check your policy and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage for a claim with photos and written details. Heardwondering Concrete cannot say what any policy covers.

What should I expect when a provider visits?

A provider will usually measure the area, check drainage and look at the ground underneath. They may ask about the look you want, like broom finish or stamped patterns. Expect questions about access for trucks. You should get a written quote with the scope, materials and timeline. Ask anything you like.

How do I compare estimates fairly?

Put the quotes side by side. Check slab thickness, base prep, reinforcement, finish, sealing and cleanup. Make sure each one covers the same job. A lower number may leave things out. Compare, then decide. There is no rush.

How do I choose an independent provider?

Ask whether they carry the licenses and insurance your area requires, and ask for proof. Request photos of similar past work and a written scope. Be wary of anyone who pushes you to sign on the spot. A good provider explains the plan clearly and answers questions without hurry.

How much does new concrete usually cost, and what does Heardwondering Concrete do?

Typical U.S. prices run roughly a few dollars to a dozen or more per square foot for plain concrete, and more for stamped or colored finishes. Costs vary by job, site and materials, so get a written quote. Heardwondering Concrete is a referral service. It connects you with independent local providers, who do the work and set their own prices.
